OverTap

Terms of use

Last updated 5 August 2026. Short, because there isn't much to say.

What this data is

OverTap indexes mining filings recorded with Nevada county recorders — certificates of location, amendments, maintenance filings, maps and transfers. These are public records. The county recorder publishes the same information to anyone who asks, and several counties publish it on the open web. Nothing here is private data, and nothing here is obtained by any means other than reading what the counties publish.

Claimant names appear as the county recorded them, including individuals. That is the record. It is shown to you because masking it would make this tool a worse copy of a source you can already read for free — not because the people named have agreed to anything.

What I ask of you

What I record

Sign-ins and the searches you run, tied to your account. It is how I keep the service working, how I know which counties and features matter, and it is the audit trail behind the public-record access above. It is not sold or shared.

What this is not

It is not a title opinion, a survey, or legal advice. Boundaries are drawn from the description recorded on paper. Under mining law the physical monuments on the ground control over that description — monuments over bearings, bearings over distances, distances over area. A plotted boundary here is the filed claim, not a surveyed one.

County indexes contain errors, and so will this. Records are matched to federal claims by land description — township, range and section — never by claim name, because names collide and are misspelled in both directions. Where a match is a candidate rather than a confirmed link, the page says so. Verify anything you are going to rely on against the county record and the BLM serial register. Absence of a record here is not evidence that no such claim exists.

Service and changes

This is early software run by one person. Availability isn't guaranteed and the data is provided as-is, without warranty. If these terms change materially I'll tell account holders directly rather than quietly reposting the page.
